Who are you helping?
When was the last time you did something for someone else totally unexpected, with absolutely no expectations in return? It is so wonderful to have it done for you, but doing something for others is so much better. I tend to be one that sees what can be done and in the past have done it, to the point that is started to be expected of me. What I was missing was boundaries and the realization of why I was doing so much. Here it is, I am a recovering people pleaser, I still love to help others, but I have to resist doing too much. Of course I can admit to all you wonderful readers that I am also a chronic enabler. When I see someone who needs help, I have to think through it, should I do this, can they do this for themselves, and would it be better if they did. I know, so much going on for just wanting to be kind. The amazing thing behind this all, is the understanding of how my complicated brain works. This I have to admit took over 40 years and I still continue to grow personally. I am always dumbfounded when I hear people say " I have no idea why I did that, I guess I will never change." That just does not work for me, and I really am not very sympathetic when I hear those words. Making mistakes is normal, but not getting the lesson from the error can be such a waste.
I have a challenge for you. Do something for someone else because you want to, not because it is expected and don't say a word to anyone about it. That is the hard part.
Fabulously yours,
