Ready, set, and off they go - let the relay of life begin. If you ask anyone these days how they are doing or what they have been up to, they say, “I have been busy.” Busy doing what? Some people will say they are functioning in survival mode. Some people are over-scheduled. While others, they enjoy the thrill and the excitement of constantly being on the go. Are they healthy? Are they happy? Are they successful?
What is the true measure of success? There are so many ways people measure success. Success may be measured by: the waistline of a pant or dress size, number of wrinkles on a person’s face, balance in your bank account, how your children are doing in school, what kind of car you drive, and how big of a house you live in. Is this really what success comes down to? Imagine if you measured success by how many lives you have touched, how many personal successes you have had, how many people you helped achieve their goals, how many smiles you made, and how many laughs you shared. What would your life look like? Would you say you are busy?
Here are some success strategies to help you pave the way to health, happiness, and success:
Get Active. Our bodies were designed to be in motion. No matter what activity you choose, get your body moving. Go for a walk. Try a new exercise class. Get out on the golf course. Ride your bide. Go for a swim. Fit in 30-60 minutes of activity a day. Drop the all or nothing philosophy. Ten minutes here and ten minutes there all add up at the end of the day.
Stay Hydrated and Eat Healthy. Start your day by drinking a full glass of water. Drinking fluids helps your body function, flushes out toxins, and keeps you energized. Avoid sugary drinks. Eat more foods that comes from the colour of the rainbow, fruits and vegetables. Healthy eating is about nourishing your brain and body with foods that make you feel great.
Choose Your Attitude. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be miserable. Studies have shown that those people who choose to be happy or have a positive attitude have an increase in productivity, are more innovative and creative, and develop better relationships. Surround yourself with people who are positive and bring out your best self. Start by developing an attitude of gratitude and enjoy some of the simple pleasures life has to offer.
Get Organized and Plan Your Day. Being organized helps save time, money, and energy. Time is wasted when you cannot find things that you need. Money can be earned but once time is gone it cannot be borrowed or bought. Clear your desk or clean your kitchen counter at the end of the day. Start the next day with a fresh start. Plan your day by focusing on what you need to do and who you are waiting to here from. Emails are often other people’s requests. Focus on what you need to accomplish first. Manage your energy by ensuring that you book some “me” time in your calendar.
Live to Learn. Choose to learn and be curious about the world around you. Everyone is on their own life’s journey and doing the best that they can. Stretch out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself to learn learn and grow by trying new things.
Pave your road to health, happiness, and success by defining what is most important to you. Live fully and make a difference. And above all - be fabulous!
